Robert D. Richardson

An entrepreneur at heart, Rob has been actively investing in the oil & gas and real estate sectors since 1988.  He is currently a Managing Partner in both ReignRock Capital Partners, LLC and its affiliate, Sovereign Resources LLC.

Rob began his career in real estate development in Raleigh, NC with The Davidson and Jones Company where he rose quickly through the ranks and was appointed to the position of Development Manager, the youngest in the company’s history.  Subsequently, he was promoted to Director of Retail Development for the Florida Division and headed the Orlando office.  In 1990, he relocated to Dallas to pursue an M.B.A. at Southern Methodist University.   While in graduate school, Rob worked for Kavanaugh Securities as an Investment Analyst and later as a Due Diligence Officer.  Rob specialized in the review and analysis of limited partnerships, particularly real estate and oil & gas related transactions.

At Kavanaugh, Rob’s entrepreneurial spirit was sparked due to his exposure to numerous distressed-seller opportunities following the 1980’s debacle in the real estate and oil & gas sectors.  In 1992, he and a partner formed A&R Royalties, an oil & gas investment company which acquired multiple properties throughout the southwest.  Following the success of A&R, he formed Regent Asset Management and then several additional entities under the Regent banner to focus on acquiring and developing real estate assets.  Since that time, the Regent companies have participated in over one hundred transactions valued in excess of $200MM.

In 2011, Rob was approached by Sovereign Resources, headed by his longtime mentor Fred Sewell, to work on a short-term oil & gas acquisition project.  After its completion, Rob began directing Sovereign’s financing and acquisition activities including projects in the Permian Basin, California and Louisiana. This lead to him joining Sovereign as a Partner and he now oversees all acquisition, divestiture and syndication activities.  Since joining the firm, Sovereign has closed in excess of $300MM in transactions.

With the desire to add private equity to their existing real estate and energy investment platforms, Rob and his partners formed ReignRock Capital Partners, LLC in 2016.  Rob serves as a Managing Partner and contributes extensive due diligence, acquisition, deal-structuring and financial experience to the firm.

Rob received his B.B.A. from Baylor University with concentrations in Finance, Real Estate and Computer Information Systems in addition to an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University.  He is a dedicated family man who enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 grown children, traveling and giving back to his church and community.  He has served on the BBVA Compass Dallas Advisory Board, is past President of the Board of Trustees for Providence Christian School of Texas and currently is a member of the Kids Across America Board of Trustees.  In his spare time, he is an aspiring chef in addition to a would-be architect who enjoys construction, landscaping and housing projects.
